Project Description

Udupi Cochin Shipyard Limited (UCSL) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL). Previously known as Tebma Shipyards Limited, UCSL was acquired by CSL in 2020 and became operational in 2021. UCSL specializes in shipbuilding, including high bollard pull tugs and general cargo vessels.

NV Dynamics was contracted by UCSL to conduct noise and vibration assessments on their newly built 3800 DWT general cargo vessel named WILSON ECO 1. The scope of the project involved performing onboard noise measurements at the harbour and during sea trials, as well as vibration assessments in both habitability and machinery spaces in compliance with relevant noise and vibration standards for ships.

For the vibration measurements, triaxial accelerometers were mounted on the deck floors of the habitability areas and on the machinery bearing housing in the equipment rooms. These accelerometers were connected to a multi-channel data acquisition system to continuously record the data throughout the measurements. Noise levels were monitored using a Type-1 sound level meter in both habitability and machinery spaces.

The collected vibration data was then processed and analysed by comparing it against the relevant standards and the results were reported to the customer; noise data was also analysed in 1/3rd octave specturm and reported accordingly.
